Future Chefs Culinary Competition
Do you know an elementary student who loves to cook?
The idea behind this event is to educate the kids in healthy eating habits. Plus, eating healthy should be fun! Students in grades 1-5 were invited to submit a recipe for their favorite main dish.
Judging will be based on the following criteria:
- Originality
- Kid friendly
- Ease of preparation
- Healthy attributes
- Plate presentation
- Taste
- Student chef presentation to judges
All finalists will receive a framed plaque, recipe book of all finalists’ recipes, chef coat, apron and hat.
Deadline to submit your recipe was January 3, 2025.

Event timeline
- The student recipe submission portal closed on January 3, 2025.
- Five Lake Washington School District students will be notified that they are finalists on January 10, 2025.
- The five finalists will participate in a culinary competition cook-off on February 6, 2025 @ Timberline Middle School, tentatively scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
- The local press will be invited to take pictures of the kids' creations; parents and teachers can view (and taste!) the final product during the reception portion of the event.
- Transportation will not be provided on February 6, 2025, for the competition. The kids will need to be dropped off and picked up at Timberline Middle School.
- Each group of kids will have a kitchen staff member assigned to help them ensure that there are no safety issues. This will ensure that safe food and preparation practices are followed and that no one gets harmed.
- As a bonus, our competition is just one of local competitions Sodexo will be orchestrating nationwide in February and March. The winning recipe from each event will be entered to win a national competition in April. More details will follow, but we’re lining up some great prizes for those that are chosen to receive national recognition!
