FOR591/FOR592 - Spanish for Heritage Learners
2 Semesters 1 Credit Fulfills: World Language

Prerequisite: Students enrolling are expected to be heritage speakers of Spanish.

This course addresses specific interests and needs of heritage speakers of Spanish (students who speak Spanish as home language or first language) especially in reading and writing. Students who already speak Spanish conversationally will continue to develop literacy skills and Intermediate to Advanced oral proficiency, while making cultural connections to the practices, products, and perspectives of our personal and local communities with those being studied. Students will develop their writing and presentational skills in Spanish as they work on projects, compositions, and presentations. Students will study a variety of genres and authors from Latin America and Spain. A contextual and thematic approach will be used.

At the end of the course students will have the opportunity to take the Seal of Biliteracy Proficiency Test, qualifying for up to 4 additional language credits. This is the first course in an advanced pathway that builds to either Spanish 4 or AP Spanish Language and Culture.
