This year-long course will provide students the foundation of health and physical literacy that students must attain to be college- or career-ready. For Health Education, students will develop into health literate individuals who are able to access, understand, appraise, apply and advocate for health information and services in order to maintain or enhance one's own health and the health of others. The class will pursue a healthy lifestyle around specific topics that include: Wellness, Safety, CPR and AED, Nutrition, Sexual Health, Social Emotional Health, Mental and Behavioral Health, and Substance Use and Abuse. Health-literate people are able to address their own health needs along with the needs of others. They are able to obtain and apply knowledge and skills to enhance their own health and the health of others — both now and in the future as their needs change throughout their lives. For Physical Education, students will develop into physically literate individuals who have the knowledge, skills and confidence to enjoy a lifetime of healthful physical activity. In this course, students will have opportunities to learn, improve and analyze their cardiovascular fitness, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, physical skills and performance, social and personal responsibility, and the value of physical activity. Each learning opportunity will be through a variety of activities in fitness and individual and team sports, which may include: badminton, pickleball, basketball, volleyball, flag football, soccer, ultimate frisbee, lacrosse, team handball, and weightlifting. This level one course will provide students the foundation of physical literacy that students must attain to be college- or career-ready. This course will provide essential knowledge and skills that physically literate students must attain to be college- or career-ready.
