Redmond, Wash. – The Lake Washington School District (LWSD) Board of Directors has selected Dr. Jon Holmen to be the next Lake Washington School District Superintendent. They announced their decision on Monday, March 23, 2020.

Redmond, Wash. – The Lake Washington School District has been following guidance from Public Health in an effort to stay open as long as possible. In light of the current information shared today by our elected officials, we believe it is time to plan for alternative ways to serve our community and families. 

In collaboration with our School Board of Directors and our Lake Washington Education Association, we have made the decision to close all schools from March 12 through March 27, and re-evaluate any further closures during that time. 

In light of today’s news about a King County resident’s death related to the Coronavirus (or COVID-19), and that additional cases are anticipated, we wanted to reach out to share what Lake Washington School District (LWSD) is doing to monitor and prepare for a potential increase in frequency of the Coronavirus in our schools.

    Child Care Resources

    Childcare services

    We know that this extended school closure will impact many of our families. The district has worked with community partners to provide child care for students in grades K-5. Priority will go to health care providers and first responders.

    The YMCA and Bellevue Boys & Girls Clubs are providing care for families in our district that need care. They have multiple locations to choose from. See below for contact and registration information.

    Use these Visual Instructions to assist you with registering. This is a NEW process to allow flexibility for families by providing daily options. If you have any questions, please email registration@seattleymca.org.

    First responders and health care providers of direct services will have $0 fees for this program. Please send an email to registration@seattleymca.org before registering to receive your special coupon code to zero out the payment. 

    If families are in economic distress or just need additional support to complete critical work, the Y will provide scholarships and they can email registration@seattleymca.org.

    Boys & Girls Clubs

    Programs are available at their Kirkland and Sammamish locations. There is a joining fee of $50. The organization is waiving the daily cost of $25 per person for health care providers and first responders until school districts reopen.
