Electric Buses

In January 2024, LWSD was awarded $500,000 in funding from the federal Clean School Bus (CSB) Program to acquire its first two electric school buses. A second CSB award provided funding to assist with the purchase of two additional EV buses. Additional awards from the Washington Department of Commerce and the Washington Department Ecology provided for the remaining costs of the buses and to install the necessary charging infrastructure to get the new buses on the road. These electric buses began operating in the 2025-26 school year. As per the federal award stipulations, these electric buses are earmarked for use on our Title 1 school routes. LWSD remains actively engaged in seeking additional grants and exploring funding opportunities to help with the transition of more buses. We are committed to advancing sustainable and environmentally conscious transportation options for our students and community.
