Alcott Good Neighbor Open House

Alcott Elementary Good Neighbor Open House Recap
Alcott Good Neighbor Open House

The Lake Washington School District Support Services team, along with members of the construction project team, met with families and community members from the Alcott community on the evening of March 12. The goal of the event was to show the community the construction plans for the Alcott Elementary rebuild and enlarge project that will kick off this spring.

About 40 community members joined the team to learn more and ask questions about the upcoming construction project. Questions for staff were focused on impacts on the students and traffic during construction and general interest in the design of the new building.

Construction is scheduled to begin over Spring Break. One of the most noticeable shifts that students and families will see during construction is a reduced play space for students during recess. While the space must be made smaller to accommodate construction activities, some additional and adjusted play elements will help us make the best of the space. Examples include added four-square spaces and temporary basketball hoops. The construction team will also add some cutouts in the construction walls so curious students can watch the progress of the new building.

It is important to note that our construction team is very experienced in school construction. They hold high safety standards, especially when building on a current school site.

As part of the 2024 Building Excellence Construction Levy, voters approved funding to rebuild and enlarge Alcott Elementary. This project creates permanent classroom space for up to 207 students and will reduce the use of portables. The enlarged and rebuilt Alcott Elementary will provide modern, state-of-the-art learning environments for our students and educators. The new building is scheduled to open in fall 2027.
