Music

Lake Washington School District recognizes that music is an essential part of many students’ educational journeys. LWSD uses learning standards developed by OSPI, among other sources, to provide a clear and structured framework for effective K–12 music education. These standards help build students’ knowledge, understanding, and skills in music, while also encouraging them to explore and express their creativity.

We believe in providing a well-rounded education for our students. All elementary students are taught foundational music skills and ideas. Middle school and high school students have the choice to take music to continue their musical education.

Music education teaches to the whole child, engages all learning styles and fosters the development of essential 21st century skills such as creativity, collaboration, communication and critical thinking. Additionally, music provides our students with keys to understanding the world around them and offers a variety of strategies for learning, interpreting and expressing their thoughts.
