State rep visits multiple schools in LWSD, learns with students during "Science on Wheels" lesson at Lakeview Elementary

State rep visits multiple schools in LWSD, learns with students during "Science on Wheels" lesson at Lakeview Elementary

On May 30, Lakeview Elementary’s first grade students were treated to an engaging, hands-on science experience thanks to the Pacific Science Center’s “Science on Wheels” program. The visit focused on the fascinating world of magnets, with students exploring magnetic properties through a series of interactive activities. From testing which classroom objects were magnetic to learning about magnetic poles and experimenting with how many paper clips their magnetic wands could hold, students were immersed in scientific discovery. The session concluded with real-world applications of magnetism, such as magnetic train tracks and recycling technologies, helping students connect classroom learning to global sustainability efforts.

Washington state Representative Osman Salahuddin (48th District) and Kirkland City Councilmember Neal Black were on hand during the visit. Rep. Salahuddin, a Lake Washington School District (LWSD) alumnus (International Community School class of 2014) and the youngest member of the Washington House of Representatives, has been actively engaging with schools in his district. He also visited with students at Clara Barton Elementary on May 14. There, he engaged with 5th grade and 4/5 Quest students for their Leadership Lab presentation. On May 29, he visited the Head Start classroom at Old Redmond Schoolhouse, where he once attended preschool, talking with students about his journey from LWSD student to state legislator.
