LWSD students attend ‘Blacks at Microsoft Minority Student Day’ hosted by Microsoft

On March 21, a group of Lake Washington School District (LWSD) students attended the Blacks at Microsoft (BAM) Minority Day held at Microsoft’s Global Headquarters. The annual event is designed to bridge the digital divide by inviting high school students from diverse backgrounds to explore careers in technology.

The day unfolded with a panel discussion of Microsoft employees and members of BAM who shared their career journeys and insights into navigating the technology industry as individuals of underrepresented groups. Students were then introduced to a diverse array of high demand careers in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) through a lineup of enriching activities, which included hands-on technology labs, mentorship sessions and career readiness workshops.

Thanks to this special event, LWSD students are now empowered with perspective, inspiration and the possibility of pursuing their dreams in the technology world. Best of all, they now have connections with industry professionals who are cheering them on for success in high school, college and beyond.
