Hitting the right note – Several LWSD students named to music honor groups
The lists are out and Lake Washington School District (LWSD) musicians are major players for this year’s musical honor groups. This year, two organizations chose students in band, orchestra and choir to join all-state and all-northwest groups. Forty-nine high schoolers and 94 middle schoolers come from LWSD schools this year.
The National Association for Music Education (NAfME) chooses students throughout the “northwest” region. These students come from Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington and Wyoming. The Washington Music Educators Association (WMEA) chooses students throughout the state for their honor groups. The students listed below joined more than 1,500 other outstanding young performers in Spokane February 13-16 for a gala event during the 2025 NAfME Division Conference. These outstanding musicians rehearsed together under the direction of outstanding music educators and presented a final concert. Three-thousand students auditioned to participate in this prestigious event sponsored by the WMEA.
Any student enrolled in a performing music class is provided an opportunity to audition and participate in these honor groups. Students are selected through an audition process that includes recording and submitting required pieces. Auditions are anonymously screened by select NAfME and WMEA membe
