LWSD leaders gather to thank Student Teachers

On February 13, Lake Washington School District (LWSD) held its first ever Student Teacher Career Night. Superintendent Dr. Jon Holmen along with leaders across the district celebrated and honored every Student Teacher for their service this school year. The event also provided them with the opportunity to make connections with their peers, as well as LWSD staff members and to learn more about what makes LWSD an employer of choice.

Dr. Holmen, along with Dr. Joy Ross, Associate Superintendent of Talent Strategy and Communications, set the stage for Student Teachers to embrace this teaching opportunity and fully immerse themselves into their classroom experience. They were also encouraged to lean into the support and mentorship that comes with their internship journey. 

Other leaders offered guidance on becoming a Teacher in LWSD. Speakers spoke on behalf of Special Services, Equity and Family Engagement, Professional Learning, Human Resources, as well as Administrators and Directors from different schools.

Speakers also shared practical tips for resume writing and interview preparation, including the timeline and process for seeking full-time and certificated substitute employment within LWSD.

Maliza Ellison, Director of Human Resources, Talent Acquisition, organized the successful event along with the dedicated LWSD Talent Team. She said, “Each school year, the LWSD Pathways Program hosts nearly 120 Student Teachers from over a dozen universities across the nation. Bringing so many of them together into the same room tonight to say ‘thank you, we’ve been there, we care about your success, and we’re excited about your future here’ was truly something to celebrate.”
