Middle School intramural athletics expansion is aces

Middle School intramural athletics expansion is aces

This school year, Lake Washington School District’s middle school athletic program moved to a three-season athletic schedule while doubling the number of intramural sessions offered to students. These changes, informed by feedback from families and staff, promote inclusivity, optimize facility use and allow for a wider range of sports that can be customized to each school. In addition to intramural versions of many of the tryout sports, schools may have also offered pickleball, wiffleball, floor hockey or flag football.

One of LWSD’s middle school athletic directors says about the shift, “The positive change I have seen is being able to have more time that is directed by the school. Giving more intramural time to middle schools allows us to offer experiences that our specific school population is interested in participating in.”

Students of all skill levels are welcome to participate in intramurals. This spring, Rose Hill Middle School has nearly 100 students playing intramural volleyball.
