Life’s a garden, dig it – Students at Kamiakin work on campus restoration project
Sixth grade science students at Kamiakin Middle School have been busy working since September on a Campus Ecological Restoration Project. Thanks to a partnership with the City of Kirkland for garden tools and native plants, this youth forest stewardship project tackled invasive species removal, the installation of over 400 native plants, shrubs and trees, as well as the continued maintenance of the area. Healthy forests provide many benefits including improved water and air quality, reduction in stormwater runoff, habitat and improved public health. The 150 students participating at Kamiakin will continue to maintain this green space as seventh and eighth graders and hopefully until they graduate in 2029.
