Tania Finlayson and son enter Kamiakin Middle School

Kamiakin Middle School parent Tania Finlayson is using her voice to help others find theirs. Finlayson, who was born with cerebral palsy, can’t use her hands and arms. She has used Morse code for most of her life to communicate. She is working with Google’s Gboard to make Morse code available for anyone to use. Watch this video to learn more about Finlayson’s work with Google.

Kamiakin Middle School ADA entrance

Like most parents, Finlayson (who also attended Kamiakin Middle School when she was a student) occasionally visits her seventh-grade son’s school. Since she can’t push the ADA button with her hand, Kamiakin Middle School ensured that Finlayson could enter the school using her wheelchair. She pushes a bar that triggers the ADA door operator.

After Kamiakin’s entry control system was installed over the summer, Support Services staff and Sequoyah Electric brainstormed a solution to allow Finlayson to ring the doorbell using her wheelchair. An additional bar now wirelessly connects to the doorbell. When Finlayson or another visitor pushes the bar using a wheelchair, office staff can see who is visiting and activate the entry control system.
