Yes and… - Lake Washington HS improv team competes at regional competition in Seattle
In front of a sold-out audience at the Market Theater in Seattle on November 25, the Lake Washington High School improv team “Kanger Management” performed at the regional improv championship. It’s called the Hogan Cup, a one night event of competitive Theatresports between the top four Puget Sound high school improv programs. They played three games: four square, genres and accessories list. This is the first time LWHS has competed in the Hogan Cup since 2019. Before reaching the finals, the team competed against other schools in a "league" of 18 high schools. The other teams in the Hogan Cup were Mountlake Terrace High School, Kamiak High School and Inglemoor High School.
According to the Hogan Cup website, the event is the first high school improvisational competition of its kind in the Northwest, with top training from Unexpected Productions coaches. Unexpected Productions has been teaching improv to high school students for over twenty years. The Finals share many of the same characteristics as their own Theatresports, with some exceptions. This event provides the students with a less competitive environment, giving them the freedom to learn through experience and teamwork with less fear of making “mistakes.”
Kanger Management is made up of the following LWHS students:
- Yoori Youn, senior
- Kendan Guest, senior
- Sarah Knott, senior
- Ryan DeVries, junior
