New LWSD art exhibition on display at Sammamish City Hall

New LWSD art exhibition on display at Sammamish City Hall

A new art exhibition is featured at Sammamish City Hall and includes work from Lake Washington School District (LWSD) students. Titled Mapping Identities, artworks produced by Eastlake High School (EHS) students are installed in the hallway and can be viewed now through June 2025. As part of the school project, students explored how their identity is connected to geography. Students used a combination of maps and self-portraits mixed with ink and watercolor to share their stories and experiences.

“I love teaching young artists how to discover and develop unique and authentic creative ideas and then turning those elements into strong artworks that they are proud of,” said EHS Teacher Jessica Sorensen. “It is my mission to facilitate art experiences that allow students to become successful problem solvers and to grow in self-confidence.”

LWSD is part of the exhibition program designed to give local artists an opportunity to display their works in Sammamish City Hall. Artists work with a wide range of media to submit their artwork. A community selection panel will then review all the submissions and recommend the finalists to the Sammamish Arts Commission for approval.
