More than just taking out the trash - Tesla STEM students intern with Waste Management to learn about waste reduction

More than just taking out the trash - Tesla STEM students intern with Waste Management to learn about waste reduction
Tesla STEM Waste Management interns

More than a dozen students from Tesla STEM High School are putting their critical thinking and problem-solving skills to work to reduce waste and protect the planet. That was their focus during an eight-week internship that ended on April 9. Students from Tesla STEM have been interning with Waste Management (WM) since 2015, exploring how waste, compost and recycling systems work in Redmond. Students toured the recycling facility that processes Redmond’s recyclables. This year’s interns also had an up-close look at the high-tech WM trucks that collect recycling, compost and garbage in Redmond. During the internship, students devised and implemented projects to improve systems or change behaviors that impact sustainability in the community.
