Eastlake High School's Mira Halley selected as speaker for 2025 AVID Summer Institute
Mira Halley, Eastlake High School sophomore, has been selected as one of the student speakers for the 2025 AVID Anaheim Summer Institute July 16-18. Mira's inspiring story will be shared with thousands of educators across the country who are committed to ensuring students are equipped with the knowledge and skills they need to achieve their dreams.
Mira's speech was originally an assignment for class, focusing on how AVID has helped her achieve her dreams and make future plans. Students had the option to submit their speeches for the contest, and Mira's compelling narrative stood out among many entries.
AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. The AVID Summer Institute is an event that brings together educators from across the nation to share strategies and success stories in closing the opportunity gap. One high school and one middle school student are chosen for each summer institute taking place across the country. The AVID Anaheim Summer Institute is one of ten taking place this summer. In addition to having the opportunity to speak in front of thousands of people, being selected as a student speaker also gets Mira $500 and a letter of recommendation from the CEO of AVID.
