Reminder: Community forums for shift to 6-period high school day start October 15
On October 1, Dr. Holmen announced that the Lake Washington School District will be shifting to a six-period schedule for high schools, starting with the 2025-26 school year. You can watch that video announcement here.
Planning is underway for this change, and we have scheduled several opportunities to engage in conversation to learn from our community on the following:
- Productive support structures of a daily schedule for a 6-period day
- Additional opportunities inside and outside the regular school day for our students including zero and seventh period options
- Existing and potential opportunities for extension or credit retrieval that could be of interest
Over the next two weeks, there will be four informal, drop-in-style forums held at each of our comprehensive high schools and one additional opportunity online. We encourage you to attend a session that is most convenient for you to share your perspective as we plan and implement the 6-period day next year.
In preparation for the forums and/or survey, we encourage you also to view this overview video created to share more context about this upcoming change.
