October 1, 2024: High School day announcement from Superintendent Dr. Jon Holmen

Over the past 15 months, Lake Washington School District has been evaluating the high school day and, specifically, the implementation of the 7-period schedule. After a thorough review of data and a cost-benefit analysis, it was recommended that alternatives to the 7-period schedule be reviewed. 

Ultimately, the recommendation was to change to a 6-period schedule.
 
I have accepted that recommendation and our teams will be actively planning for implementation next school year.
 
I have provided a video update regarding the decision to change our high school schedule to a 6-period schedule starting in the 2025-26 school year. There are many aspects of the high school day that we are seeking feedback on including:

• Aspects of the Daily Schedule
• 0 & 7 Period Classes
• Additional Options and Opportunities

Five feedback/input sessions will be held in the coming weeks. One at each of the comprehensive high schools and an online open house. I encourage you to participate in one of these sessions to learn more about the changes and provide input into the redesign of our high school day.

• Tuesday, October 15, 2024 – Juanita High School, 6-7:30 p.m.
• Thursday, October 17, 2024 – Lake Washington High School, 6-7:30 p.m.
• Tuesday, October 22, 2024 – Eastlake High School, 6-7:30 p.m.
• Wednesday, October 23, 2024 – Online/Teams Town Hall, 6-7:30 p.m.
• Thursday, October 24, 2024 – Redmond High School, 6-7:30 p.m.
