Together everyone achieves more – LWSD capital projects and technology operations teams work together in planning new classrooms at Redmond Middle School
Construction on the two-story, eight classroom addition is well underway and planned occupancy for Redmond Middle School (RMS) staff and students is on schedule to open Fall 2024. The funding for the construction comes from the Building Excellence Construction Levy that voters passed in February of 2022. On a recent visit, the Lake Washington School District (LWSD) Capital Projects and Technology Operations teams met with builders and designers to tour the addition. The goal of the visit was to review a "mock-up" of a classroom technology infrastructure. This site collaboration during construction gives the Technology Operations team an opportunity to see the layout of the space before a network of cables, wires and technology components are installed.
By coordinating during this phase of construction with one of the many stakeholders, Technology Operations, it allows the subject matter experts to provide final inputs or adjustments to the placement of technology infrastructure in the classrooms with little to no impacts to cost or schedule. These visits provide an opportunity to ensure our classroom experience for our staff and students will be efficient and effective and bring quality assurance to the drawings that the builders use to construct the space. LWSD Capital Projects continues to look for opportunities for stakeholder input to improve the school construction process. Two other middle schools also have additions underway funded by the 2022 Building Excellence Construction Levy. Finn Hill and Kirkland Middle will also receive eight classroom additions opening Fall 2024.
