Mission statement: Emerson K-12 is a community of families working in collaboration with the Lake Washington School District to ensure that each student will be prepared to lead a rewarding, responsible life as a contributing member of our community and greater society. 

Overview: Emerson K-12 is a Parent Partnership Program (PPP) designed to engage families interested in being active partners in their child(ren) instruction. Core and enrichment/elective classes are generally offered two days per week, with parents delivering instruction on the other days in partnership with certificated staff. Each student has an individualized learning plan that meets LWSD and state standards. We operate under the Alternative Learning Experience (ALE) part of Washington Administrative Code (WAC) 392.550. Many high school students also participate in WANIC, Running Start and/or their neighborhood school’s academic program. Our small size allows us to focus on individual student needs – and be responsive with interventions and/or accelerations as needed.

Mission statement: Students achieve academic, personal and social goals in a challenging educational program. The environmental focus encourages students to participate in creating and maintaining healthy environments for learning and living. Students benefit from a sense of belonging, purposeful learning, and opportunities to develop as leaders, stewards, and responsible citizens. 

Overview: EAS provides a challenging program based on an environmentally-focused, thematic and integrated curriculum infused with outdoor adventure-learning and community stewardship. EAS students apply skills and concepts from all subjects to investigating local watershed and global issues. They develop confidence and skills to work effectively as leaders, mentors and team members through a wide variety of outdoor activities and projects. This focus encourages purposeful learning. It provides connections to the community and opportunities to develop as leaders, stewards and responsible citizens. Students also participate in three, week-long adventure-education experiences built around school and academic goals. Parents apply their expertise and partner with EAS teachers to create and lead engaging elective offerings, challenging adventure-education rotations and other learning events.

Evergreen Middle School

Overview: Evergreen Middle School is committed to developing the whole child through our focus on academics, athletics, activities and the arts. These opportunities create different connecting points for students in social, emotional and behavioral maturation and provide a foundation for their academic success. Our staff strives to create a safe, caring learning environment concentrated on the needs of all learners. We are proud we have a very collaborative staff committed to supporting the whole child. Because of our collaboration and commitment to excellence, we have been School of Distinction Award winners and Washington Achievement Award winners.

Mission statement: Each student will graduate prepared to lead a rewarding, responsible life as a contributing member of our community and greater society. 

Overview: FHMS utilizes a whole child approach to education, with a focus on being a supportive school. Teachers, administrators, and other caring adults who take a personal interest in the social, emotional and academic success of each student are central to a supportive school. We believe each student deserves access to rigorous learning and should be supported by qualified, caring adults. Our school supports social emotional learning through Falcon Time, a twice weekly advisory in which students learn the Character Strong curriculum. Students are supported academically through our twice weekly intervention program, Falcon Flex, which allows students to participate in reteaching, challenge/enrichment activities and general academic support.

Inglewood Middle School

Mission statement: To develop a student who will be an intellectually reflective person, a person growing toward a lifetime of meaningful work, good citizenship, caring and ethical individual actions, and a healthy lifestyle. 

Overview: The Inglewood community values connections, we act with integrity, and practice self-awareness. There are many opportunities to get involved and connect with peers. As a fully inclusive school, Inglewood heterogeneously groups students and then differentiates instruction to meet the needs of all students. Inglewood offers an intensive academic and extra-curricular program. Language Arts and Social Studies classes are taught by the same teacher in a two-hour period, commonly called a "block class," at all grade levels. We closely monitor the academic progress of all students. When a student begins to struggle to meet learning objectives, we intervene immediately in a friendly, supportive and systematic way.

Mission statement: International Community School cultivates integrity, curiosity, complex reasoning, problem solving, and global awareness in every student with a rigorous, signature program of arts and sciences. 

Overview: The school’s focus is on six core integrated content areas with an emphasis on depth of understanding and interconnected learning: humanities, international studies, art, science, mathematics and foreign language. ICS emphasizes global awareness and having the capacity to incorporate the attitude, knowledge, and skills necessary to feel empathy for the human condition all over the world while acknowledging our perspective as one among many, realizing how we impact and are impacted by larger systems.

Overview: KiMS is dedicated to ensuring students grow academically and strive to deliver high-quality, engaging and meaningful instruction to each student every day. Our active student leadership program focuses on positive school culture and hosting fun events and activities for students. Our “The Panther Way” motto guides our interactions – kind, respectful, and responsible - in every school setting.  Kirkland Middle School is dedicated to ensuring students feel a sense of belonging within our inclusive school community. Our elective offerings include Game Design, STEM, Design and Modeling, Band, Orchestra, Choir, Drama, Debate, Journalism, Team Sports, Digital Media, a myriad of Art classes, Spanish I and II, and Leadership. Our focus is on providing every student with the opportunity to progress, advance and experience personally challenging work.

Overview: At Northstar, we believe students learn best in a small, caring community where individual talents can be recognized and nurtured, academic growth encouraged, and social development fostered. Northstar has four full-time teachers and a student body of nearly 90, with approximately 30 students per grade level. Students develop the positive perceptions of self, school and life that are the foundation for continued success. We emphasize academic excellence, personal responsibility and creativity. Experienced teachers work as a team to lead multi-age, theme-based classes. Parents participate by working cooperatively with teachers to sustain a cohesive learning community, provide enriching experiences and promote a love of learning.  We foster the unique aspects of each student and appreciate individual differences. Students are encouraged to connect to people in their community through service learning.

Overview: Redmond Middle School is guided by its motto, “The Grizzly Way,” which captures its holistic approach to education, where staff not only teach academic content and skills, but personal and interpersonal attributes that build the foundation for future success. Redmond Middle School is proud to serve a large, diverse student body and strives to offer a variety of classes, clubs and programs to ensure that each student in our school is welcomed, supported, and challenged. We have interventions in place to help students who need extra help or time to do work such as our After-School Study Hour and Grizzly Time. Finally, we have a caring and hard-working staff committed to helping students achieve.

They are nurtured as important individuals who have an active concern for their community and society. Our program focuses on teaching students to think deeply as critical thinkers in order understand the world around them and how they fit in it. In addition, the students focus on learning the skills of visual arts and performing arts. Teachers provide opportunities for students to use those skills to express their understanding of concepts in other content areas.

Overview: Stella Schola encourages parents and community members to assist students in developing skills to become independent and self-sufficient adults who will succeed and contribute responsibly to a global community. The rich, comprehensive learning environment is based on historical themes with an emphasis on mastery learning for all students. By integrating as many subjects as possible into year-long historical themes, students learn from the past to make better choices and decisions in the future. Students have the same teacher for most of the school day, which enhances opportunities for integration of subject matter, helps promote curricular continuity, and increases the students’ sense of belonging during early adolescence. In-depth studies of the core subjects are emphasized. Students participate in a student-to-student mentoring program. Stella Schola’s unique schedule allows teachers to create a highly personalized environment for students.

This also includes opportunities for students to have fun and develop meaningful relationships with their school community. RHS Concert BandL Music in Our Schools Month

Lake Washington School District has a strong and active music program, with classes for everyone from beginners to students with years of experience. These young musicians perform in concerts, festivals, and in the community throughout the year, which prepares them for continuing their musical journeys in high school and beyond.

The Eastside Native American Education Program celebrated Indigenous Peoples Day with a celebration held outside Lake Washington High School. They want to bring awareness to the 91 tribes in the program by asking “Am I Enough?"
