Installing language keyboard
Adding languages to a LWSD student laptop
Changing the keyboard language enables you to type the characters that are used in that language.
Instructions are for languages that are pre-loaded on all district devices. The list of languages available is below:
- zh-cn (Simplified Chinese, China)
- fr-fr (French)
- de-de (German)
- es-es (Spanish)
- ja-jp (Japanese)
- zh-tw (Traditional Chinese, Taiwan)
- ru-ru (Russian)
- he-il (Hebrew)
Note: Students should be able to add other languages than the ones listed above. These languages are not pre-loaded and may take longer to install. Please plan accordingly.
Steps:
- Open Settings
- In the search bar type “Language Settings,” this will bring you to the Language page:
- Click on Add a preferred language:
- In the search bar at the top of the new window, search for the language needed. Either enter the code (JA-JP) or the language (Japanese). Click on the result of the language you wish to add, hit Next.
- Settings will search for language features, leave “Set as my display language” unchecked. Choose Install.
- The window will close and the language will begin installing.
- Once installed, text will change to “Language pack installed”, user can now start using the keyboard and language.
To start using the language installed
- In the bottom right of the screen, next to the clock, users should now see “ENG”. Clicking on it will open a menu showing the different languages installed
- From the list, user should choose the language they wish to use.
- A new option will appear in the system tray, a letter or symbol. User can right click this for more options within the languages
- Keyboard shortcut: To switch between keyboard layouts, press ALT+SHIFT.
