Eastside Native American Education Program

Native American student displays an intricate traditional drum he madePenaho (hello) and welcome to the Eastside Native American Education Program or ENAEP. ENAEP is a federally funded program that supports Native American, Alaska Native and American Indian students in the Lake Washington, Bellevue and Northshore School Districts grades K-12. This program is intended to provide students with the opportunity to succeed academically and also provide opportunities that enrich their cultural lives.

Program Coordinator Lauren Nabahe (lnabahe@lwsd.org) and the Parent Advisory Committee (made of parents and students across all three districts) guide the program content. Anyone is welcome to join the committee, including students. Your input is greatly valued!

Funding for the program
This program relies in large part upon a grant from the Federal Government determined by the number of students who have a completed 506 form on file. The number of students with 506 forms served in ENAEP determines the amount of grant money the program is awarded to fund its services.

Federal requirements and assessment
The program is required by the Federal Government to be "comprehensive" in its scope, meaning that it must provide activities that meet the unique needs of American Indian and Alaska Native students, but also must be consistent with and promote the goals in the state and local improvement plans under Title III of the Goals 2000: Educate America Act, as well as other state standards and assessments. The program is assessed each year by the government to ensure that the goals are being met.

Program Eligibility
We warmly extend our invitation to your student and your family to become part of our Eastside Native American Education Program. Any student and/or family who identify as Native American, Alaskan Native or First Nations is welcome.

To have access to ALL the supports, services and resources that ENAEP has to offer it is also highly encouraged to complete a 506 form. Those who are eligible to complete a form are students who are/have one of the following:

  1. The student is an enrolled member of a Tribe.
  2. The student has a parent who is an enrolled member of a Tribe.
  3. The student has a grandparent who is an enrolled member of a Tribe.

If the above applies to you, please complete a 506 form for each individual student.

Please send the completed 506 form(s) to Lauren Nabahe at lnabahe@lwsd.org. If you have any questions about 506 forms, how to complete or need assistant please reach out to me via my email at lnabahe@lwsd.org or my work phone: 425-900-7394.
