Future Projects - Long-Term Funding Plan

The 2015 Long-Term Facilities Planning Task Force developed a list of projects to serve the growing student population and meet the district’s facilities needs through the year 2029-30. A subsequent Bond Advisory Committee helped the district develop a long-term plan to fund and implement those projects.

The 2016 bond measure, which passed with 66.28% voter approval, represented the district's most pressing needs. It will provide space for about 3,000 students. This will increase permanent classroom capacity to about 28,000 when all eight projects are complete in fall 2020.

Enrollment in 2017-18 was 29,572. That number is expected to reach 31,000 by 2020 and 35,000 before 2030. A bond measure on the February 2018 ballot to add space for 2,100 students did not meet the required 60% voter approval.

Additional construction projects will be proposed in the future to meet the facilities needs outlined in the Task Force recommendations.

The district's funding plan is:

  • Comprehensive.
    • Addresses both short-term and long-term needs.
    • Addresses needs across the district, in all learning communities.
  • Responsible.
    • Addresses both overcrowding and aging facilities.
    • Reduces the district’s reliance on portable classrooms over time.
    • Meets the classroom needs created by all-day kindergarten and K-3 class size reduction.
  • Cost conscious.
    • Reduces building costs through the use of specific design principles.
    • Leverages the use of existing facilities for long-term needs.
  • Fiscally disciplined.
    • Maintains the 2015 tax rate over time.
    • Prioritizes construction projects to address growth over time.
