Gun Storage Safety
A message about secure firearm storage
Lake Washington School District (LWSD) is committed to the health and safety of our students and staff. It is our number one priority. That is why LWSD has decided to provide tips on storing firearms in the home. It is important that we all know the ways to keep guns in the right hands and prevent their unintentional and illegal discharge.
If we all work together as a community, we can keep our kids safe from gun violence. If you have a gun in your home, please follow the secure storage practices outlined below and encourage others to do the same. If you don’t have a gun in your home, ask about secure storage practices of guns in other homes.
Below is safety information you can use to properly store firearms. The data comes from several reputable organizations and government agencies, for example the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Secret Service and the Council on Injury, Violence, and Poison Prevention Executive Committee. Please refer to the footnotes for sourcing on the information. Following these commonsense guidelines will help protect our children from injury, self-harm and fatality.
