Head Start Preschool Program
What is Head Start?
Head Start is a federally funded program that offers services for the entire family. The heart of our Head Start program is preschool classes for children. The high quality preschool experience provided is aimed at kindergarten readiness. Children participate in learning activities including social development and problem-solving. They receive developmental screenings, nutritious hot meals, health screenings and follow-up.
How students qualify for services
The program is federally funded and free to eligible families. 90% of the program's enrollment is reserved for families whose income is at or below the poverty level, while 10% is available to children facing other challenges, including disabilities.
How to apply for Head Start Preschool:
To apply for Head Start Preschool, parents/guardians must:
- Complete a preschool application. (Spanish preschool application).
- Provide verification of income as indicated on the application.
- Make sure the child is up-to-date on required immunizations.

How children are selected for preschool
Selection is based on several criteria including family concerns, concerns for the child and level of family income. First priority is given to families who meet these criteria. All other applicants receive placement based on available space.
