The Eastside Native American Education Program celebrated Indigenous Peoples Day with a celebration held outside Lake Washington High School. They want to bring awareness to the 91 tribes in the program by asking “Am I Enough?"

Lynn Kohlwes has been teaching in Lake Washington School District (LWSD) for 39 years. This year, her hard work has paid off as she is recognized as Elementary PE Teacher of the year for Washington.

Five students from Lake Washington School District (LWSD) put on an impressive display during this year’s National History Day competition. A team from Nikola Tesla STEM High School took home first place while a student from Evergreen Middle School placed second.

The King County Green Schools (KCGS) program recently handed out recognition to schools for their work in resource conservation. Several schools from Lake Washington School District (LWSD) were acknowledged for their efforts as part of this program.

Three Lake Washington School District teams made it to the national Science Olympiad competition this year. Two middle school teams, Timberline and Redmond, participated in the virtual event May 9-14. Additionally, Nikola Tesla STEM High School was the only LWSD high school team that competed.

A teacher at Lake Washington High School (LWHS) is making history. Michael Dawson, history teacher at LWHS, recently received the 2021 Thomas J. and Cameron Pressly Endowed Prize for Outstanding History or Social Studies Teacher in Washington Schools.

The lists are out and Lake Washington School District (LWSD) musicians are major players for this year’s musical honor groups. On even school years, the Washington Music Educators Association (WMEA) choses students from across the state from Middle School to High School to participate in WMEA State Honors Music Groups. Sixty-nine high schoolers and 55 middle schoolers come from LWSD schools this year.

Redmond High School (RHS) science enthusiasts hosted a virtual Science Olympiad for middle school students. The RHS Science Olympiad club hosted the third annual B-division invitational in the “Mini Science Olympiad” virtual format on February 5.

Athletic trainers are health care professionals recognized by the American Medical Association, Health Resources Services Administration and the Department of Health and Human Services as an allied health care professional who works with and collaborates with physicians. The services provided by athletic trainers include prevention, emergency care, clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions.

There are only winners when teams show up to the FIRST ®LEGO® League (FLL) Challenge state championship each year, and 2022 will be no different. Two teams made up of students from Lake Washington School District will be there on Saturday, February 12 to show their skills.

Lake Washington School District (LWSD) Transition Academy is a winner of the 2021 Corporate Strides Award and Community Partner Award. Each year, Little Bit Therapeutic Riding Center recognizes outstanding organizations for going above and beyond through volunteer service and/or financial contributions to support the Little Bit mission.
Lake Washington School District health services manager Dr. Keandra Thompson has been nominated for the 2021-2022 national LifeChanger of the Year award. Sponsored by the National Life Group Foundation, LifeChanger of the Year recognizes and rewards the very best K-12 educators and school district employees across the United States who are making a difference in the lives of students by exemplifying excellence, positive influence and leadership.
Over the last couple of years, librarians and educators across the state have been looking for resources to learn how to use digital tools for remote and hybrid learning. Liz Courage, Lake Washington High School librarian, was part of a team in Washington state that helped develop these resources.
