Two rising seniors from Nikola Tesla STEM High School (Tesla STEM) used mapping to tackle an important issue for a local endangered species. Siddhant Porwal and Druhin Bhowal brought awareness to the Southern Resident Orca Whale (SROW) population decline through state and national ArcGIS mapping competitions.

A student at Redmond High School will be gaining practical work and life experience through a paid internship. Conan Lu, class of 2022, was selected as a Bank of America Student Leader. He is one of only 300 students across the country selected for this honor and just one of seven from Washington state.

Audrey Hagen got to fly business class for the first time recently, and loved it, but that was not the best part about her trip. The rising sophomore at Juanita High School was asked to be a gaffer at the Special Olympics USA Games in Orlando, Fla.

Students at Nikola Tesla STEM High School (Tesla STEM) have some serious business skills. Dozens of students from Tesla STEM competed at the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) State Leadership Conference in Spokane between April 10-13. Six individuals and teams finished in first place.

Lake Washington School District students are ready to make a big splash in the health sciences industry. Eighteen individuals or teams finished in first place and many more placed in the top three at the 2022 HOSA Future Health Professionals State Leadership Conference held virtually March 7-11. 

One-hundred and nine LWSD students placed high enough at the DECA State Career Development Conference event to qualify for a spot at the International Career Development Conference in Atlanta, Ga., April 23-26.

Christine Ye, senior at Eastlake High School, was recently awarded a major prize for her research on space. Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and Society for Science announced on March 15 the top ten winners headed by Ye, who won the top award in the 2022 Regeneron Science Talent Search.

Juanita High School (JHS) senior Koumudi Thanda received the 2021 Lee Johnson Student Community Service Award.

Christine Ye, a student from Eastlake High School (EHS), has been named a finalist in the 2022 Regneron Science Talent Search. The competition is the nation’s oldest, most prestigious science and math competition for high school seniors. It is hosted by Regneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
