Several LWSD students named to music honor groups, two headed to Carnegie Hall in New York City
The lists are out and Lake Washington School District (LWSD) musicians are major players for this year’s musical honor groups. On even school years, the Washington Music Educators Association (WMEA) choses students from across the state from Middle School to High School to participate in WMEA State Honors Music Groups. Sixty-nine high schoolers and 55 middle schoolers come from LWSD schools this year.
Any student enrolled in a performing music class is provided an opportunity to audition and participate in these honor groups. Students are selected through an audition process that includes recording and submitting required pieces. Auditions are anonymously screened by select National Association for Music Education (NAfME) - Northwest Division and WMEA members.
In addition to the students selected for these different groups, two students were chosen to perform with the Honors Performance Series at Carnegie Hall. Eighth graders Brooke Lin (Oboe) and Dylan Gautham (Trombone) from Evergreen Middle School will be headed to the famed music center in New York City this summer. Selected finalists rehearse and perform under master conductors and have the opportunity to meet other like-minded musicians from around the world.
