Let’s get physical – Juanita Elementary PE teacher wins state award
Lynn Kohlwes - Elementary PE Teacher of the Year

Lynn Kohlwes has been teaching in Lake Washington School District (LWSD) for 39 years. This year, her hard work has paid off as she is recognized as Elementary PE Teacher of the year for Washington. Kohlwes received her award at the SHAPE Washington Fall Conference at Highline High School on October 15. 

Kohlwes is being recognized for her superb instructional strategies, positive student relationships and how she connects to the community. This is all while advocating for healthy, active students. According to a co-worker, she is innovative, engaging and works tirelessly to provide the best physical education for her students. 

Kohlwes has been the PE teacher at Juanita Elementary for 29 years. She also serves as the Elementary PE Specialist Lead assisting other PE teachers in our district. During remote learning, Kohlwes developed captivating lessons to keep her students engaged and active. She was even featured in the Seattle Times for her work. Kohlwes is now a candidate for the national Elementary PE Teacher of the Year award.
