International Community School art and literary magazine recognized nationally for second straight year
Pyra mag

A pattern seems to be developing at International Community School for their work on an art and literacy magazine. The National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) recently ranked the magazine, named “Pyra,” as “Excellent.” In only its second year of existence, the magazine has earned this distinction for a second year in a row. It was submitted through the NCTE program called Recognizing Excellence in Art and Literary Magazines, or REALM. The mission of NCTE’s REALM program is to publicly recognize excellent literary magazines produced by high school and middle school students with the support of their teachers. There is only one other magazine in Washington state recognized by the REALM program this year.

Madeleine Goertz, Ellen Ma, Yuen Hang Fung, Aubrey Jacob, Rachel Li, Matthew Lin, Rory McNerney, Wyatt Moore, Anusha Parameshwar, Anna Rowell, Divya Saenz-Badillos, Michelle Janssen, Eric Shi were the magazine’s 2019-20 student editors. You can see the magazine by clicking here
