The lists are out and Lake Washington School District (LWSD) musicians are major players for this year’s musical honor groups. On even school years, the Washington Music Educators Association (WMEA) choses students from across the state from Middle School to High School to participate in WMEA State Honors Music Groups. Sixty-nine high schoolers and 55 middle schoolers come from LWSD schools this year.

Earth Day 2022

Students across the district supported and celebrated sustainability efforts in their schools all week for Earth Day 2022.

How inspiring! – Redmond High teacher wins UW Engineering inspirational award

Jeff Gehring - Inspirational Teacher Award

Redmond High School (RHS) teacher Jeff Gehring is finding out that his influence goes beyond his current high school classroom. Gehring is the recipient of the University of Washington (UW) Paul Allen School of Engineering Inspirational Teacher award. This award recognizes K-12 and community college instructors who are nominated by current undergraduates at UW. Gehring teaches Physics at RHS.

Gehring received a framed quote as part of the recognition. The following quote is from the student who nominated him, “Thank you for making the real world bound by physics as exciting as the digital world of computer science, and doing it with unparalleled enthusiasm.”

Here is an excerpt from the recognition: [The Paul] Allen School faculty and staff appreciate this opportunity to connect with a broader educational community and to reward educators who inspired our talented students. The quality of our program relies on the preparation and inspiration our students receive before coming to the UW. For teachers and students, this is an opportunity to reconnect and see how far they have come.

In lieu of a an in-person celebration due to the COVID-19 pandemic, recipients of the award received a swag box, in addition to the framed quote.
