Standing out – Lake Washington High School teacher receives Rotary award
CJ Green

A Lake Washington High School teacher is being honored for going above and beyond. At its most recent meeting on May 15, Carl J. "C.J." Green, Lake Washington High School (LWHS), received the Rotary Club of Kirkland's Outstanding Educator Award for 2023. Green teaches career and technical education courses, in particular marketing and business classes. He is also the school's Black Student Union Advisor.

Here is an excerpt from the Rotary of Kirkland detailing why Green was chosen for the award:
Mr. Green is a strong advocate for, and coach of, the school's DECA chapters of over 300 student members, supervises the students in the operation of a comprehensive student store, and leads students to a variety of regional and international competitions at DECA conferences. Mr. Green co-leads the Racial Equity Team at LWHS, and also is an assistant coach for the Kangaroos' football team.

In addition to his leadership in these areas, Principal Christine Bell notes what stands out about Mr. Green is his thoughtful and reflective nature. He listens carefully, particularly to students, and is a leader on the LWHS staff. She says you'll often find him supervising concessions so that his clubs can earn funds for trips, teaching students how to manage the student store and teaching students how to plan for and run their own businesses. The Rotary Club of Kirkland is proud to honor Mr. Green with the Outstanding Educator Award for 2023.
