Twenty-eight students representing Evergreen Middle School recently attended the We the People National Invitational sponsored by the Center for Civic Education. The team was invited to attend the national event in May after they competed at the high school level, Washington state showcase in January.
The beat goes on – Rose Hill Middle School virtual band performances
When schools closed in March, the traditional end-of-year band concerts that showcase a year’s worth of practice and progress were effectively canceled. Rose Hill Middle School (RHMS) Band Instructor, Angela Laulainen got creative during the remote learning period and had her students record their parts at home. The audio, video and image files then got edited together by Arts Laureate into virtual performances.
The virtual collaboration with the Harbor Ridge Middle School (HRMS) band has special meaning since the band took a field trip before the school closure to Gig Harbor where they experienced what school was like for kids in the early 1900s at the Harbor History Museum and then performed music with the HRMS band. The field trip was made possible by a grant from the RHMS PTSA.
Below is the video featuring the virtual collaboration between RHMS and HRMS. All band videos can be viewed on the RHMS website.
