Robot happy dance – EMS students place sixth at robotics world championship

A team from Evergreen Middle School made a splash at this year’s Vex Robotics World Championship in Louisville, Ky. April 29 - May 1. They call themselves Disco Botz and they finished in sixth place out of 400 teams in the Skills Challenge. The Skills Challenge consists of a one-minute round of autonomous programming and one minute of driver skills.

Three teams from Lake Washington School District competed at the international event after winning at regionals. The competition brought more than 30,000 people, including 1,648 teams, from 30 nations. It was a week-long celebration of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), diversity, and robotics. Once again securing the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title of largest robot competition.

VEX Robotics Competitions involve student teams tasked with designing and building a robot to play against other teams in a game-based engineering challenge. Students use classroom STEM concepts to learn lifelong skills in teamwork, leadership, communications and more.
