Look out, world – 19 LWSD teams headed to world championship for robotics
Nineteen robotics teams from Lake Washington School District (LWSD) traveled to the VEX Robotics World Middle School Championship in Dallas, Texas, May 3-12. 785 teams from all over the world competed in 10 divisions. Almost all of the LWSD teams made it to the division finals where the top 20 teams in each division played a one playoff match. From the division finals matches, the top two teams went to the championship finals, which were played in a large arena with thousands of people in attendance. Only twenty teams competed in the finals matches, three of those were teams from LWSD (Ex Machina, Robo Sapiens, and Forza). Ex-Machina won second place in the world in a very close match. In all, LWSD teams won twenty different awards at worlds. Team With Fire from Evergreen Middle School won the World Excellence award, the most prestigious award given at Worlds.
