Students at Redmond High School come into their Computer Science and Engineering course with little to no programming skills. By the time they leave, students are creating working robots. The robots are so advanced that students use their own phones to control the machines via Bluetooth technology.
PE classes at Sammamish high schools compete for Gaelic Football Presidential Cup
Students at Eastlake High School are learning how to play Gaelic football in physical education class. After a visit by the president of Ireland to Skyline High School in 2015, the two Sammamish schools decided to hold a Gaelic football tournament.
Eastlake won the tournament on Oct. 19. They will keep the Presidential Cup until next year's tournament. The cup was a gift from the president of Ireland during his visit.
At the conclusion of the match, John Keane, Ireland’s honorary consul for Seattle, presented the Presidential Cup. The award is based on the point total from four matches.
PE teacher Patrick Parnell coached Eastlake’s team. PE teacher Brendan Hyland coached Skyline’s team. Terence Lynch with Cascade Youth Gaelic Games officiated.
