In today’s news…Lake Washington HS student nominated for “high school Emmy award”
A news anchor for KANG News at Lake Washington High School (LWHS) is making a splash in the high school TV world. Jessica Laing, senior at LWHS, was recently nominated as a finalist in this year’s National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) Northwest High School Production Awards. Jessica is the host of a series titled “Perspectives on Remote Learning” for the school’s news program. The series is a finalist in the Long Form Non-Fiction category. The episode that was entered for award consideration centered around a conversation with Carl Green, a business teacher and DECA advisor at LWHS. According to the video description on YouTube, the video is about “the positives and challenges of teaching remotely, as well as creating the school's first Black Students Union.”
NATAS is the organization behind the Emmy Awards, which is why these awards are often referred to as the high school version of the “Emmys.” Winners will be announced on Saturday, June 5, at the 58th Annual Northwest Regional Emmy™ Awards Ceremony. It will be a virtual ceremony live from Fremont Studios in the Seattle area.
