Students from three Lake Washington School District high schools have qualified for nearly 70 theatre awards. About 60 students from Eastlake, Juanita and Redmond high schools are in contention for an International Thespian Excellence Award, or Thespy for short. These thespians performed in front of judges at the Northwest Regional showcase in January at Nathan Hale High School in Seattle. Those receiving a "superior" rating are automatically qualified for the international event in Indiana in June. Others receiving a high enough score get another opportunity to qualify for the international event during the state competition March 16-18 in Bellingham, Wash. The Washington State Thespian Festival is an opportunity for theatre students and teachers from across the state. They gather and participate in clinics and workshops presented by local and national teaching artists. Students also have the ability to perform and watch performances from students across Washington state.
