Pathway Forward Update – February 28, 2022
Dear LWSD Staff and Families,
This morning, Governor Inslee announced a change to the date the statewide indoor mask requirement will lift. Instead of March 21, the statewide requirement – including in schools – will lift at 11:59 p.m. on March 11. Additionally, King County Executive Dow Constantine announced today that King County would follow the same timeline for lifting the county mask requirement and stated King County would not institute a mask requirement for schools.
This means that beginning Saturday, March 12, barring a new requirement from our local health department, masks will become optional in our school buildings and on school buses. Staff and students will have the choice to wear a mask at school, with the expectation that others’ choices will be respected.
Until March 12, masks will continue to be required for all students, staff and visitors in all Lake Washington School District buildings and on buses.
The State Department of Health will provide updated guidance to schools early next week. You can anticipate receiving additional information related to the upcoming changes later this week and again next week. Thank you for your continued flexibility and understanding as we navigate the changing requirements together.
Dr. Jon Holmen, Superintendent
Lake Washington School District
