May 21, 2021: Secondary COVID-19 District Evaluation

Per the District’s evaluation, all LWSD Schools will continue with current learning model. No changes to 4-day per week schedule. Mask expectations remain in effect for schools.

As we returned our secondary students to their campuses, we indicated that we would set benchmark dates for evaluating COVID case rates and test positivity on four dates throughout the remainder of this school year (April 23, May 7, May 21, and June 4). As of today, the following data is being reported by King County Public Health:

County Cases per 100,000 over 14 days Test Positivity Rate
King 191.0 4.4%
LWSD Reported Region Cases per 100,000 over 14 days Test Positivity Rate
Kirkland 95.4 3.5%
Redmond 82.3 2.5%
Union Hill 49.9 1.7%
Sammamish 57.8 2.1%

Metrics Key
  Green Orange Red
Case Rate 0-179 180-219 220 or higher
Test Positivity 0% - 8.9% 9% - 10.9% 11% or higher

Additionally, we have been monitoring positive cases in our schools to determine if there is any evidence of a COVID-19 outbreak on our campuses. You can view our health and safety dashboard here: Health & Safety Dashboard - Lake Washington School District (lwsd.org)

According to the Washington State Department of Health, a COVID-19 outbreak is considered when the following have been met:

  • There are two or more laboratory-positive (PCR or antigen) COVID-19 cases among students or staff.
  • The cases have a symptom onset within a 14-day period of each other.
  • The cases are epidemiologically linked.
  • The cases do not share a household.
  • The cases are not identified as close contacts of each other in another setting during the investigation.
Contact tracing does not demonstrate evidence of spread on our campus  Contact tracing indicates limited (less than 5) epidemiologically linked cases Contact tracing indicates significant spread on our campus

Therefore, as a result of our evaluation of this data, all LWSD Schools will continue with current learning model. No changes to 4-day per week schedule.
