Dear LWSD Staff and Families:
Governor Inslee held a press conference today at 11:30 a.m. to announce a statewide emergency proclamation that will require all school districts to offer the option of in-person learning for all elementary students by April 5, and all middle and high school students by April 19.
Districts will be required to offer at least two days of in-person instruction per week. Instruction can be offered in partial days, and in a hybrid model. As part of this requirement, 30% of instruction must be offered in-person. The proclamation is expected to be released next week.
We will analyze our current elementary plan to ensure we are fully meeting the emergency proclamation. Currently:
- Grade K-1 students had the option for in-person learning as of February 18.
- Grade 2-5 students will transition learning models over the next two weeks with all elementary students having the option for in-person learning by March 30.
We have already begun our efforts to re-open our secondary schools and will meet the timelines required by the emergency proclamation related to our secondary students.
Later today, secondary families (grades 6-12) will receive an email with instructions to complete a survey in Skyward Family Access. The survey will ask families to indicate their preference for an in-person hybrid or a fully remote learning experience for their student(s) starting in April. Secondary staff will also receive an email later today with instructions to complete a survey in Skyward.
We look forward to welcoming students who select in-person learning back to all our schools in April.
