August 18, 2021: Pathway Forward video message from Superintendent Dr. Holmen

Dear LWSD Staff:

Earlier today, I gave a live presentation to share guidance for the 2021-22 school year. In case you missed the presentation, you can view the video and the transcript of the presentation by clicking the video thumbnail below or by visiting our website at The video will have captions available in several languages. If you want to translate the transcript of the video, go to the transcript page, and then click on the globe in the top left corner of the webpage and select your desired language.

As a reminder, LWSD has created both a Back to School Information page, and an updated Pathway Forward Frequently Asked Questions webpage for families to review as they prepare for the return to school. Please continue to check both pages for information regularly, as updates will be made in conjunction with guidance from the Washington State Department of Health (DOH), Office of the Superintendent of Instruction (OSPI) and Seattle-King County Public Health. DOH just updated their guidance for schools on August 10, 2021 and we are in the process of updating our COVID-19 Safety Plan to follow their guidelines.

If you have additional questions, please submit them using Let’s Talk. We will continue to add to our FAQ as additional information is available.

This afternoon, Governor Inslee announced a vaccine requirement for all school district staff throughout the state. We will be actively working with our staff to ensure we are in compliance with this requirement. It should be noted that, while I don’t have an exact count, we are aware that a high percentage of LWSD employees are fully vaccinated. For those that are not, we will work with them regarding this requirement.

We look forward to seeing each of our students in September as we launch the 2021-22 school year.
