Financial Update


2019 Capital Construction levy funding

In April 2019, voters approved a capital construction levy that is providing $120 million in funding, collected over six years. These funds, combined with state construction assistance funds, will provide a total of $144 million. As of March 2021, $73 million has been spent on these levy projects:

Classroom additions and additional core facilities

Lake Washington High School

  • Completed Fall 2020: 20-classroom addition and commons addition
  • Scheduled completion Fall 2021: Auxiliary gymnasium

Franklin Elementary

  • Scheduled completion Fall 2021: Eight-classroom addition
  • Scheduled completion Fall 2022: Core space addition

Rose Hill Elementary

  • Scheduled completion Fall 2021: Eight-classroom addition
  • Scheduled completion Fall 2022: Core space addition

Twain Elementary

  • Scheduled completion Fall 2021: Four-classroom addition
  • Scheduled completion Fall 2022: Core space addition

Rachel Carson Elementary

  • Scheduled completion Fall 2022: Four-classroom addition Scheduled completion
  • Fall 2023: Core space addition

Safety and Security

  • Completed Fall 2020: Exterior security cameras at all elementary schools
  • Completed Spring 2021: Remodeled entryways at Eastlake High School, Lake Washington High School and Redmond High School and implementation of entry control systems consistent with other district schools.

To have immediate funds for these critical capacity projects, the district completed a Limited General Obligation bond sale for $75 million in May 2020. Bonds will be paid back over the next five years with proceeds from the 2019 levy.
