Lake Washington School District expands offering for out-of-district boundary exceptions for eight elementary schools

Redmond, Wash. - Lake Washington School District (LWSD) will be expanding our current in-district and out-of-district variance opportunities for elementary families. After examining our enrollment data, we have decided to expand our current openings for the 2022-2023 school year for both in-district and out-of-district transfers.

The following elementary schools are now open for applications for both in-district and out-of-district (choice transfers) variance applications: Dickinson, Juanita, Keller, Mann, Muir, Sandburg, Thoreau and Wilder.

The following elementary schools will remain open for variance applications for families who live in the LWSD only: Rose Hill, Franklin, Rosa Parks and Ella Baker.

All other elementary schools will remain closed to variance applications to families who live outside the district and/or live outside their neighborhood boundary zones.

Please remember all openings mentioned above are limited and based on space available in the specific grade level, program, or building. In addition, all families that apply for a variance are responsible for their own transportation to and from school. If a choice transfer can be approved, it will be approved for the school year only. Renewal requests must be submitted annually and are not guaranteed.

LWSD has a limited number of spaces available for students living outside the district. Please check the Open Schools List to determine if the school you are interested in is open for Choice Transfers. Requests to closed schools will be automatically denied.

If you have any specific questions, please reach out directly to the registrars of each elementary school.
