For the fifth year in a row, the College Board named Lake Washington School District (LWSD) to its Annual AP District Honor Roll. LWSD is one of only 373 public school districts in the United States and Canada and one of four in Washington state to be honored. Lake Washington is one of two districts in the state to be a multi-year recipient of the AP Honor Roll Award.

At its December 3 meeting, Lake Washington School District’s (LWSD) Board of Directors passed Resolution No. 2259 to place a Capital Projects Levy on the April 23, 2019 ballot. This measure, if passed, authorizes a six-year levy totaling $120 million or an average of $20 million per year for six years.

Community Open Houses & Tours for two new elementary schools

    Thank you, voters!

Redmond, Wash. – Lake Washington School District (LWSD) opened two new elementary schools in September: Ella Baker Elementary, located in the Redmond Ridge East Community (9595 Eastridge Drive NE, Redmond); and Clara Barton Elementary, located in North Redmond (12101 172nd Avenue NE, Redmond).

Each school is hosting an Open House event in October. Tours will be available at each school on the following dates:

    Ella Baker Elementary School
    Saturday, October 6, 2018
    10:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

    Clara Barton Elementary School
    Thursday, October 11, 2018
    4:15 - 7:00 p.m.

The two new elementary schools are funded by the 2016 voter-approved bond measure. The schools are designed to enhance learning and conserve natural resources. Each has space for 690 students.

“We are pleased to open the doors of our newest schools to our community and hope everyone will join us for the celebrations,” said Dr. Jane Stavem, Superintendent. “Lake Washington is fortunate to have the strong support of communities that care about providing great schools that inspire students to learn and dream about their futures.  We are grateful to the voters and everyone who contributed to the successful completion of our newest schools!”

    Building on Success
Ella Baker and Clara Barton elementary schools are two of eight bond projects approved by voters in April 2016. By fall 2020, the program, known as Building on Success, will provide space for an additional 3,000 students.

To ensure cost-effective design and efficient use of space – as outlined by the Long-Term Facilities Task Force – the district assembled a panel of local experts to weigh in on the 2016 bond projects as they were developed. This Design and Construction Advisory Committee provided advice on each project during design development and provided feedback on schedules, budget, materials, site layout, risk mitigation and more. LWSD is one of the fastest growing districts in the state. From 2010 to 2017, enrollment grew an average of 700 students per year. Enrollment in 2017-18 was 29,572, with growth projected to continue.

Ella Baker Elementary School was designed by DLR Group and built by Lydig Construction. Clara Barton Elementary School was designed by BLRB Architects and built by BNBuilders Construction. Construction management services were provided by OAC Services.
