The new schools are funded by a $398 million-dollar bond measure approved by voters in April 2016. By June, 2017, work will be underway on five of the eight school projects funded by the bond.

Dr. Traci Pierce, Superintendent, will speak at the event. School Board members and district leaders will also attend.

The 78,000-square foot elementary school is scheduled to open by fall 2018. DLR is the architect and Lydig Construction will build the school. The 134,000-square foot middle school is scheduled to open by fall 2019, was designed by McGranahan Architecture and will be built by Lydig Construction.

The school projects included in the 2016 bond are needed to accommodate rapidly growing enrollment, and to address aging facilities.  LWSD is the fastest-growing district in King County; and with enrollment of 29,008, the third largest district in the State. Projects on this bond measure are part of the recommendations made by a Long-Range Facilities Planning Task Force. The task force’s work addresses the district’s growing enrollment and aging schools through 2029-30. To construct all the projects recommended by the task force, the district has proposed additional bonds for consideration in 2018, 2022 and 2026.

In addition to these events on June 7, groundbreaking ceremonies scheduled for this spring include:
