Comprehensive High Schools to maintain Remote Learning through January 21, return to in-person learning on January 24

Good afternoon staff and families at Eastlake, Juanita, Lake Washington, and Redmond High Schools,

Over the last week, our comprehensive high schools temporarily shifted to a remote learning model. As we have analyzed the situation, we have determined to continue remote learning through this week and have our high schools return to in-person learning on Monday, January 24.

This change allows us to accomplish three critical outcomes:

  1. More staff back to serve students during in-person learning
  2. More students able to return to school after a required quarantine or isolation period
  3. Shift contact tracing and COVID positive response protocols

My team has actively worked with King County Public Health and our COVID Response Team to develop a plan to adopt the updated Washington Department of Health guidance related to contact tracing and COVID positive case response. This will increase testing at our secondary schools and streamline the identification of close contacts. It will also require specific training and changes in protocols. We are planning to have these changes in place by January 24 when our high school students return to campus.

You can expect additional communication from your schools and/or your child’s specific teachers.

Thank you,
Jon
