Good evening,
Throughout the day, District staff have been working with Kirkland Police Department (KPD) based on a series of threats of violence that had been posted online. These threats were specific to Juanita High School (JHS) students. KPD has notified the public via a social media post that the 18-year-old suspect had been arrested and booked in jail.
Given the significant events that unfolded today and as we work with KPD to develop a safety plan; we have determined that Juanita High School will be closed on Monday, June 13, 2022. All other LWSD schools will be open and will operate on regular schedules.
Families of JHS seniors should look for communication tomorrow morning from Principal Clapp regarding graduation ticket dissemination.
We greatly appreciate the students and community members that provided information related to the threats of violence. The LWSD tip line is actively monitored so that we can take action on issues of concern. Our collaboration with KPD will continue through this situation to ensure we have accurate information and support for the implementation of required safety plans.
We anticipate KPD releasing a press release later this evening or tomorrow morning related to this situation. It is anticipated that we will communicate directly with the JHS students and families in the coming days.
Thank you,
Jon
